Flow - Finnish and social skills for working life

Co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) Kajaanin Haka ry is hosting an employment project in which we encounter native and foreign born job seekers, people under the threat of unemployment and people who otherwise are outside the labour force. With individual support and by standing our customers are guided towards finding their own path in studies or working life.

Flow - Finnish and social skills for working life is supported also by Osuuskauppa Maakunta, Kajaanin Romu Oy, Kontinjoen Herkkukulma, LähiTapiola Kainuu-Koillismaa, City of Kajaani and Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

Flow is based on modules

All customers will participate in the base module in which we accumulate mental and physical resources, social skills, digital readiness and, if needed, language skills. In addition to the base module, customers can compliment their participation with field oriented modules such as care giving, welding, trading or property maintenance. Other fields are also possible in according to everyone's individual needs. In these modules we get to know the field through expert lectures, company visits and practical training. Therefore we collaborate closely with the area's employers and schools.

Flow - orientation centre and our goals

In the project we will establish an orientation center especially for the base module's activities. In the orientation center we will develop our customers' digital skills, social interaction, daily life skills and the resources these require.

Participating the project will enhance customer's individual resources, their social capital will increase and their plans regarding future will become clearer. The customers will start studies or get employed. In addition, foreign born participants will practice their Finnish language skills to enable employment.

FLOW Project Concludes – Excellent Results in Employment and Educational Pathways

The FLOW – Finnish Language and Social Skills for Working Life project, managed by Kajaanin Haka ry, has concluded as of March 31, 2026. The two-year project achieved and partly exceeded its set targets: a total of 100 participants progressed directly into employment or studies through the project.

At the core of the project was supporting participants' career paths and addressing regional labor needs. The activities combined individual and group coaching, work-place trials, and close cooperation with local employers.

The Results Speak for Themselves

The project reached a total of 121 individuals, and the outcomes were impressive:

• 100 participants progressed to employment (38) or studies (62).
• Transitioning into vocational degree programs was particularly strong.
• Participants' labor market readiness, motivation, and life management skills showed significant improvement.
• Network cooperation exceeded expectations: the project collaborated with 93 partners, 35 of whom acted as direct employers.

Operations Continue as an Established Model

Although the project is ending, its legacy lives on. The modular coaching model developed during the project will partially continue as an established practice. Furthermore, the deepened cooperation with educational institutions and employers will continue to be utilized in the future.
